The only two programs you'll need for burning DVDs:
DVD decrypter (this program is free, and it will soon be your best friend)
CloneDVD (this isn't a free program, but you can download it from any of the bittorrent places)
Another program I recommend is DVDlab pro. If you want to author your own DVDs this is the way to go.

Just bought one myself today. (that thing was a BITCH to get into my computer. Almost destroyed the damn thing putting it in. Luckily I downloaded Nero and dvd decryptor before my internet was taken away. (Yes, i'm 20 and my parents took my computer away - yes, I really should move out lol) So ya, i've been using my dads computer at night to check up on stuff. =P Off to go try to figure this stuff out.

yeah i use decrypter cus you will need it to back up pretty much any dvd you ever buy so...
dvdxcopy platinum is good for compressing so...... but in conjunction with descripter you should be good the only movie i couldn't back up was res evil apocalypse which i really don't care that much if it gets scratched up i got it cus i liked the first one but the second wasn't that interesting so...

if you guys want freeware all the way use
DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink they are both freeware and all you will ever need.. Btw the guy that wrote DVDShrink was hired by Ahead and if you check out Nero Recode it looks pretty much same design as DVDShrink so you can check that out.. IMHO way better then CloneDVD or any of those dvdxcopy crap..
http://www.doom9.org will have all that for download or just do a search for them.
And for just regular burning all the way around.. i only suggest Ahead Nero. very good all around burning application.

Well burning's been going fairly well. Not sure how to use dvdshrink though... How do you save the changes you make? I make all the changes I want and go to recode or whatever that button is at the top right and I don't see any way to save the changes i've made so I can use Nero to burn it to a dvd. Am I just completely missing something?
Also, where do you guys buy your dvd-r's from? I see on ebay auctions like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...37374&rd=1
but that's so much cheaper than the stores it makes me wonder if i'm missing something and i'll regret buying off ebay...

DVDS Shrink and Nero are a dream team together. DVDrs are so cheap now, I think Best Buy had Sony 8x for $20 for a 50 pack of + or _.

In my country if you want a blank dvd from the store you'll pay I think eur.1 (and eur. 0,50 for a blank cd) to our MPAA/RCAA (whatever they're called) which they supposedly transfer back to the music and movies industry. As a result you can't get a single blank dvd for less that eur. 1,50.
So we just import them from Germany or Belgium for like 0,20 a disc

As for software, I use dvddecryter for movies but for ps2 games I use alcohol120% which is a must since I've had many coasters using other programs but this one seems made for games.
