Video:
Perfect video saw no problems.
Audio:
It was in japanese only, i like dubb but not complaining. I only took off because it was very soft, no much but more than most hk sets.
Subtitle:
They were fine. The only problem i saw was that they always got hiei and kuranmas name wrong. They also changed the names of some attacks throughout the set. Mainly the spirit gun, it's not like we don't know when he is going to do that, lol.
Comment:
Expensive for the set only problem was the subs. Which are very minor.

Let me first start off with how good this series is. I watched through all 112 episodes, and by the time I finished, I wanted more. I'm going to get the OVA set and the movie soon, and then I will review those. Video: 5/5 - Excellent video, most likely came off of the official Region 2 Japanese DVDs or the LaserDisks. Audio: 5/5 - Very nice audio, it sounded like Dolby Digital 5.1 audio on my Apex Region 1 DVD player and my Zenith 27" TV (Even without a stero system) Subtitles: 2.3/5 - The subtitles were near poor translated. First off, whenever somebody would say "Kurama" in the audio, it would display "Hiei" in the subtitles, and it would display "Kurama" whenever somebody would say "Hiei" in the audio. Second, the translations and the grammar were very poor. These were subtitled by Hong Kong fellows, all right. Content: 5/5 - Excellent series, I loved the series. Next on my list for Yu Yu Hakusho stuff is the OVA series, the movie and the OSTs. Absolutely superb series indeed. edited by Vashts80 on 14 Sep 2002 12:56 pm

The video is decent quality. Probably a good VHS copy rip.
Audio:
the audio is acceptable, no real distortion to speak of.
Subtitle:
Utter crap. Really really bad. For some strange reason, they continually subtitle 'Hiei' as 'Kurama' even though it's obvious what the voice actor said. They sometimes mix up 'kurama' to 'hiei' and Yusuke to Kurabara. The translation was obviously done by someone with a very limited knowledge of english, or possibly using some kind of translation mechanism a la babelfish. The chosen vocabulary is very poor.
Comment:
Another anime I really like, and that is worth watching in spite of the shitty translation. It's definitely not the package to get if you're looking to bone up on your japanese skillz as a newbie.

This is some of the worst subtitling I have come across. Sentences leave you wondering if a computer dictionary and not a human translated this. The most annoying is the fact that Hiei and Kurama names are switched. Although this is extremely annoying…this is a fighting plot that can be followed without good translations. The audio and visuals were just under DVD quality. This series is filled with rich characters that posses amazing powers and fighting abilities.

the vid quality was mediocre..... the audio seemed to have no real problem. however, the subs sucked.....A LOT. major engrish, bad spelling, bad grammar, etc. if you don't mind HORRIBLE subs, then it might be worth the buy.

Videos are okay... but not great Sound seems good for speakers, but surround sound I don't know. Subtitles are horrid. Names are wrong (switched for two main characters) and spelt wrong for basically everyone else but Baton. A lot of guessing as to what they are trying to say. Too bad it was mangled so badly, because it is a good series but myself found it relatively easier to understand as I got farther in, maybe because by then you understand what they are trying to say.

Everything you'll read in here, you've read before. Video: Ripped directly from Laser Discs, it actually looked pretty damn good. Colors are, for the most part, bold and vibrant. The screen shaking is kept to a bare minimum, and there are few other glitches to speak of. There is a slight flaw in that the picture seems to be exceedingly bright on computer setups, however, I didn't run into this problem on our standalone. Overall, it looks pretty good. Audio: No complaints, I believe it used a fake 5.1 track but echo was kept to a minimum. No real complaints or complements. Subtitles: As I commented on before, and as someone already has, this is a 112 episode edition of the infamous Zero Wing video game (the game that coined the annoying-as-hell phrase "All Your Base Are Belong To Us.") Names are mixed up, names change, names are incorrect. This causes quite a bit of confusion for those who don't know how to distinguish japanese names, though most people over twelve will know how. The subs are fairly easy to follow up until the last 40 episodes, but even then they are far, far from good. The last 30 - 40 episodes actually have some meaningful dialogue which gets completely jumbled. Grammar is equally as horrendous, many lines are pre-first grader writing level, many times it seems like it'd kill them to use proper english one time. The subs are just downright horrible. Packaging: Several options here: Deluxe 12 case w/ 2 boxes, Semi-deluxe with 12 discs, 6 cases and 1 box, Ghetto Deluxe with 4 cases, 12 discs and spindles, or Super Transforming Ultra Mega Ghetto - 12 dvds in a plastic bag in a small box. The Deluxe 12 case is nice, but not too great, and it only goes downhill from there. Overall: Wise up. If you're planning to "Resub" this series, I think it's already started. The subs are horrible, the video is acceptable, the audio is okay. It just isn't worth the time or effort.
