Overall:
Video:
Yay! Anamorphic widescreen for the main feature and special edition, letterbox format for Last Order and the making-of. Variable bitrate is above average. Everything looks fantastic. Pixelation or macroblocking? Not here, buddy.
Audio:
Woosh! Everything's presented in excellent DD 2.0 while the main feature and special edition have additional DD 5.1 surround sound. No probs at all.
Subtitle:
Whoa! The main feature, special edition, Last Order OVA and making-of all have superb English subtitles. Timing, punctuation and grammar are near perfect. No lines off-screen like in EZDVD's version, no names wrong, no company logos. Only 1 or 2 slightly mistimed lines plus a few minor typos, mostly found in the making-of. Nothing major. One of the trailers is (professionally) subbed, too. Another one comes with english narration. Those two are E3 trailers.
Comment:
Okay, so this is what you get: Disc 1 (DVD-9) - FF7 AC main feature, 100 min, anamorphic, DD 5.1 & 2.0 (Reminiscence & Compilation of FFVII are listed in the menu but not included at all) Disc 2 (DVD-5) - FF7 AC special edition, 24 min, anamorphic, DD 5.1 & 2.0 - Last Order, 25 min, letterboxed, DD 2.0 - Making-of, 36 min, letterboxed, DD 2.0 - 8 trailers, 20 min, letterboxed, DD 2.0 - 11 "bonus tracks" (= deleted scenes), 3 min, letterboxed, DD 2.0 Animated menus & scene selection with background music from the film. Clear single case, holding both dvds. No M-locks but Amaray-like "ying-yang" disc holders. Unfortunately, the title written along both sides of the reversible cover is missing an "r". The front covers and disc labels are not affected though. So anyway, absolutely recommended. Especially since the R1 release doesn't include Last Order. (testing equipment: Panasonic S75 multiregion DVD player, Sony Wega 25" flat screen TV, RGB scart connection, Kenwood & JBL stereo setup)
