Video:
First stage video transfer looks like VHS; grainy pixelised. Second stage is much better with little graininess and pixelation. Third stage as well as the Extra stage is excellent.
Audio:
First stage has echos, which are annoying. The rest of the series is perfect. The Euro-Battle episode which is at the end of Stage 1 is a nice little music video which re-uses beginnings and endings.
Subtitle:
Excellent quality. Nice choice of words and grammar. Sometimes the timing is a little fast, but usually right on.
Comment:
This series reminds me so much of Hajime No Ippo. It drives you (no pun intended) to want to watch another episode to find out what happens next. I disagree on only seeing this series as a one time watch!

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. The video in this set is a mixed bag. The first stage has a SVHS look to it. The second stage is a super compressed version with a frame skips in a couple of the episodes. The 3rd and extra stages are just perfect.
Audio:
The first stage has that annoying echoing sound in it. But the rest of this set's sound is fine.
Subtitle:
The chinese subs are superb. The english ones are straight from fansubs so they are good however they have engrish here and there.
Comment:
The series is fantastic as far as racing action with some real story elements. I enjoyed it alot. The series isn't really that much of a re-watchable show but it will keep you entertained for that first watch.

The video is very good. Very little pixelation and skipping only occured a couple times during the movie. Seems the next reviewer disagrees. I don't agree whatsoever that it has a crappy VHS look to it, but perhaps if he's having more skipping problems it's because he's using a cheap dvd player. I know when I upgraded to a slightly better dvd play it got rid of most skipping in HK titles I was getting from my other player.
Audio:
Nothing to complain about. perfect.
Subtitle:
These are some of the best HK subtitles i've ever seen. Very well done. The movie I think was subbed by someone else because they worded things much differently. Most the series spells out eight-six but in the movie they refer to Takumi's car as the '86. However, the movies subtitles are still very well done, just not quite as good as the rest of the series.

I love this series. Went into it with pretty low expectations but was very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend this title. I also disagree about it being a re-watchable show. I re-bought the set after I sold it thinking I was going to buy the R1's. However, TOKYOPOP did such a sad job with the dub I couldn't bring myself to support the release and re-bought this set.
