Not perfect but more than good enough to warrant a purchase. The pixelation wasnt as bad as i was expecting from a show with 12 eps a disc, but it does show up. Thankfully it is only during a few of the more fast paced action scenes. I noticed the most int he lightning portion of the last fight in Maze Castle. Other than that this set has good video quality. Its not the Tenchi Remastered OVA, but its not the last few minuets of Read or Die OVA either.

Audio:

Not a lot to say here. Both tracks sound fine. There 2.0 of course but hey what do you expect 5.1 dolby digital sourround sound, come on this is a rip of a funimation disc.(well except for the few eps that are rips of the old mi version)

Subtitle:

I can only ding them from a perfect score because of the hk originals for 5-8. Other than that great subs. Added bonus, you get a dubtitle track and some chinese dubs for eps 5-8.

Comment:

I am glad that i bought this set. I hope MAC doesnt go with 12 eps a disc anymore because it does retard the quality some. Thankfully this set doesnt suffer too much from the obvious over compression. People who are anal about the picture may want to remember that this set comprises the first 10 or so dvds of the funimation release. So if you have to have it crystal clear, which the R1's arent even, then get ready to fork over at the very least 200. As for the show itself, its a good show. Its a better shonen fight show then Dragon Ball was, because its a bit more grounded in reality, well as much as a show spirt guns, demons, and a baby emperor can be. You wont see fights drag on three eps. The characters are interesting and its relay an ensamble cast. Personaly i like the english dub better overall compared to the japanese track. Though some characcters have bad voices in english none of them are main characters. Overall this is a great set to buy, and a great show.

I just got this set in and popped on the first disc to see the problems with ep's 5 to 8 that the last reviewer noticed, and actually didn't notice the problem myself, as the quality was pretty much consistant through out, and in comparison to the R1 versions (which weren't all that great themselves, to be honest) Also noticed no sever compresion problems either (not like the first Slayers set from FX, where any slight hint of action, triggers a flurry of pixilation, which makes the show almost unwatchable)

Audio:

Nothing special about the English audio, seemed okay.

Subtitle:

As for the subs, the previous reviewer was dead on there, as I turned on the subs for ep 5, and was greated with your average Hong Kong subs. Sure they get the story across, but not as eloquently as the English dub does.

Comment:

Deffinatly worth the money if you plan on watching this set with the English dubs on.

Putting so many episodes on each disc has really taken its toll on the video quality in this set. Even though the majority are R1 rips, heavy pixellation is very noticeable in fast action scenes and can be very distracting. In addition, for some reason, episodes 5-8 on disc 1 are rips of the much older MI set. Video quality in these episodes is worse due to the lower quality source with colours bleeding and very washed-out.

Audio:

No real problems with sound. Both Japanese and English tracks are present, bizarrely even the 4 old MI rip episodes have the English dubbed track. So I have no idea why, if they had the R1 sources for these episodes, they didn't use them for the video and subs.

Subtitle:

The R1 rip episodes have excellent subs, no lines are missed and timing is perfect. The 4 MI episodes have the same terrible subs as the set they were ripped from, complete with horrible grammar and the reversal of Kurama and Hiei's names.

Comment:

I can't fathom why MAC didn't use R1 sources for eps 5-8. It would have cost them all of $20 to pick up Vol.2 and having those hideous MI episodes completely spoils an otherwise decent set. I also think they should reconsider putting 12 eps on a disc for fast-moving shows such as this one. I don't normally notice pixellation but this was the worst I'd seen for a long time. However, since this is such a great series, I'm glad I got this set, even though I'm going to have to order the R1 Vol.2 to complete it.
