Considering this shows age it?s not too bad pixelation wise though it happens more often than a lot of other sets. What?s strange is that I didn?t notice it till the second viewing oh well. Still great considering the age, what it is and most importantly how much I paid.
Audio:
The audio on both ends is loud and clear watched it on two different systems sounds great through the speaker system I watch most anime on and average to lower on my laptop but everything does so I can?t really say much. But I?m not too picky in cases like this it can easily be watched without distraction so I?m happy.
Subtitle:
The subtitles were fine nothing wrong from what I could see. There are two sets the subtitles for the Japanese language track and one that only shows subs for signs and things of that sort.
Comment:
It?s been quite a while since I watched this title otherwise I would have submitted a review sooner but FX did a fine job with this set. For those wondering it may be under a different name but it is still FX as I said before. If you have the chances to get this set I defiantly recommend it without a second thought. A good show with lots of comedy and some very interesting characters truly an exceptional piece of work and one of the few titles I can recommend to almost anyone.

Overall the Video was very good. Although there was slight pixelation in some scenes. Its nothing serious and definatly shouldn't prevent you from buying this set.
Audio:
I didnt find any trouble with it, and the Japanese/English audio tracks where the same volume as far as I could tell. Note: I watched the series in Japanese, the english voiced didn't appeal to me.
Subtitle:
The subtitles had a couple of notable problems. Mostly in the first disk, there where scenes in which they got alot bolder, and on my TV they showed alot blurrier in those parts. In the later episodes, whenever a sign or any japanese characters where shown, the subs that showed what the characters where saying/thinking where cut off and replaced by the translation. It got pretty annoying, but, its not too bad.
Comment:
Overall, FX did a great job on this series. There where a couple glitches as I noted earlier, but, nothing too major. After watching GTO, I was very impressed, this series is . I highly recomend it to anyone. To tell the truth I didnt have very high expections of it, but now that I've seen it, Onizuka is definatly one of my favorite series Ive watched so far, and Im still craving more. It's got everything, from fights, guns, car chases, to romance and humour. Plus tells an excellent story. The only thing that disapointed me in the least was the ending, but, even that wasnt so bad. -Katherine_Jean

Very good series with morals and prechings up the ying-yang. There is a lot of mature humor and suggestions, but overall it is great show and should be watched by 15 yr olds and up. e-mail me for questions: [email protected]

Video was o.k.Pretty good, although there were parts when it looked like it a VHS rip instead of a dvd rip.And there slight pixlation on the first dvd (although that one was most likly from my dvd player) for me and on the 3rd or 4th one.
Audio:
Pretty good.No problems, just a few skips, but I'm sure that was my dvd player. But overall it was good.
Subtitle:
Subs were good.No engrish obvious region 1 rips.I watched the entire series in english then in Japanese.Although the titles do hang low, and half or more are cut at certain times. Also the subs will grow really bold one second and return to normal the next.Another thing is, during the later episodes when a sign appears, the sign will be translated but any conversation will not be subbed. But this happens in the later episodes.Other then that the subs were pretty good.
Comment:
Overall it was nice set.I recomend getting. My set came and the first disc would not work on dvd player (Fisher S1000).The video would not kick over, only the audio, so I was stuck on the menue screen well the audio was playing. This however was only on this dvd player.when I played it in my cyber home dvd player, the disc played fine, till the middle of episode 4 where itwould skip. However replacing my fisher with a newer maganavox dvd player, seem to make all these problems go away. And well playing the dvds on the magnavox, I had no problems at all.

What can I say; it was a fantastic anime. I had very low expectations for it, but it suprised me. It is very funny and has to be my favorite. I have to say though that I hate the ending. What happened was that the show was scheduled to end before the manga finished coming out. As a resut they threw together some bad ending, but don't let that scare you away from the series. Buy this; you'll love it but when you are all done start buying the mangas at #14, which is where the series leaves off. They are great. You should definately get this.

As a reviewer, I was trying to look for ways to lower the video score (I feel too humble as a reviewer sometimes) but this set was from FX, so I had to give into the 5. Other than slight pixelation and a few distorted transition scenes (you'll notice if you are very attentive), the video quality is great. Major props for FX.
Audio:
No problems here. The Japanese track matched perfectly with the anime. English wise is good too, though I hadn't checked in all episodes for the English dubs. Loud and clear, didn't need to change the volume at all.
Subtitle:
The subtitles are great virtually 90% of the way. Spelling errors are scarce, and the subtitles make for an almost perfect Jap viewing experience. The flaws of the subs are described below in comments.
Comment:
Sidenotes: + As everyone pretty much mentioned before, the subs tend to stop when translating a sign. I found it kinda odd because they seemed to have no problem translating two voices going at the same time (i.e. the tv and onizuka talking at the bar, as well as other instances) but for signs, it would simply translate the sign and not the actual voice. Disturbing for following in depth conversations. + The intermissions where kanji words were displayed on live pictures during the middle of the show weren't subbed. I still don't know what they say during those intermissions. =P + If you're impatient like me, you'll sometimes skip the intro because you want to see the actual episode. However, on a number of episodes (starting from disk 2), part of the intro (when the words GTO are displayed) is left off in the next chapter. So you know how theres 4 parts to every episode: intro, part 1, part 2, ending. Well, the ending of the intro is cut off and put into part 1, which disturbed me, because I wanted to get into the show as immediate as possible. Perhaps I'm just picky, but hey, that's me. + Complete 5 set DVD rips, just like the 5 DVD R1 set. That's right: that means no compacting 2 disks worth of episodes into 1 DVD, and that means no shabby submenus. No offence, FX, I love you guys, but when I saw your submenu in AI Yori Aoshi, I was saddened... saddened and tired. Grammatical errors irritate me, so thanks for doing this. =) + A great show, case closed. It's funny, it's action packed, it's dramatic.. it's everything an anime should be and more. Onizuka is a suberb anime, and in this case, is combined into an even greater set. FX has done it again. I'm out. =) Hope you found this review helpful friends. * Tony

Not the best R1 rip that ive seen from FX, theres definately some pixelation goin on in high movement scene but apart from that the picture quality is great. Certainly better than vhs but not quite up to proper dvd, although the flaws are quite easy to live with and occassionally not even noticable.
Audio:
Im not big into audio as ive only got a shitty small tv but i did notice that a few episodes were slighly out of sync in the japanese audio track. The english audio seemed to be perfect, except for the poor voices (well in my opinion)
Subtitle:
Perfect R1 rip, didnt notice any missing lines at all. Signs and notices also translated but ocassionally doesnt translate dialogue while doing so. Nice yellow subs, although they appear to be quite low on the screen this never served as a problem to me and i dont see as how it could be to anyone else.
Comment:
This is a great set and the packaging is also very nice, it looks like a 4 disc gatefold with an extra place for a disc glued on, making it fairly chunkier. The art seems to be taken from the R1 dvds and the set is certainly pretty, although i have issues with the actual printing on the dvds themselves, the colour seems to be washed out and it doesnt fit right with the background. Prehaps this was only on my set and its not really a big deal but i feel that people might wanna know this. The show itself it great (a lá the title) and is pretty damn funny in places. It follows the explots of Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old virgin and ex-biker, and his dream of becoming a teacher because he think high-school girls are hot. Basically he just wants to get laid but as the story progresses, and after several attempts from the his class to get him sacked, he slowly becomes friends with his students and there is the occassional moral thrown in at the end of an episode. Most episodes are really good even the filler ones but there is the occassional disapointment which should be expected from a show that is 43 episodes long. The only real disapointment i have with the show is the difference from the original manga. The anime is much less crude and graphic than the manga which takes something away from the humour plus most of the first volume is missing which in my opinion was the best. So basically this is a great set and a great show and you should definately pick up the manga if you enjoy it!

Has to be a R1 rip, since there's a English dub. But still I have OGM-DVDrips (with English dub-track) on my computer that look way better than the ones in this set. Pixelation when high movement occurs in scenes and the video colour looks as lively as a good tv-rip. Even though I've quite some complaints I give it still 4 stars since the video quality is constant through the whole series. So it has to be the rendering (5 two-layered discs --> 5 one-layed discs...do the math)
Audio:
Hmmmmm sound. Tomoko no Koe wa Kawaii !!! ^^ For the Japanese audiotrack: No complaints here. Didn't check the English dub though, I hate dubs
Subtitle:
Good --> R1 subbing. Sometimes they tend to leave the dialogue out and put in the translation of some sign or name exposed in the picture, pretty annoying but It only happened on not-essential parts and just a few times.
Comment:
This is one of those series where every episode is enjoyable and where many of them are even memorable. Highly recommended for every Anime-watcher and Otaku. The specials suck. Didn't check them all, I think. But there all mistakes from the English dubbers compiled into a badly cut video of 5 minutes per disc (I think) It's so good I even started over again from episode 1 when I finally finished it. lovely 43 episodes!!! ^^ Best buy if you want it cheap ;)

The Audio was a little goofy. It would sometimes get quiet which made me turn up the volume on my t.v. , but then it would go back to normal a few mins later and I would to lower it back down again AND that got realy anoying, but it only did that maybe once or twice per disc. It's not enough to ruin the show just tick you off a little. It realy depends on you if your gonna like the english voices or not. I enjoyed them but every one has differnt likes and dislikes so as i said be for it's realy all up to you.

GTO is one of the greatest animes I have ever seen! It has romance, comady, drama, and even a few life lessions to be learned. GTO is a very funny anime but sometimes it tires to be too funny and that can sometimes get annoying. One of my favorte things about this anime is the plot twists that you almost never comming, most of them come out the blue. GTO's biggest problem is the ending, it ends things in the same goofy way it began but at the same time leaves you wanting more. Im not saying the ending is bad but it leaves some things open as if there was a 2nd part to the series or a movie that hasnt come out yet(i realy hope there is more). Overall GTO is worth the price, So if I was you I would buy it as soon as possible.

For the most part, the video quality is decent. Pixellation occurs frequently during quick scenes, and this anime has a lot of 'em. It's never so bad that it ruins the experience, though. Colour and clarity were both pretty solid throughout the series.
Audio:
Sounded perfectly clear to me. I listened to parts of the English dub, and it was pretty horrible. However, that's a non-factor for me, since I only care about the Japanese track.
Subtitle:
Almost flawless. The translations are error-free, but there are a few incidents where a sign translation will completely override speech subs for a sentence or two. What's missed isn't important and viewers should have a general idea of what happened (you can easily switch to the English dub if you want to hear what was missed). Also, some sub-chapter titles' subtitles will disappear really quickly. It wasn't a big deal for me. Overall, the subtitles were excellent.
Comment:
I loved this series. With most anime, there are usually a few episodes that are kind of a drag to watch, so I take breaks from them for a while - not so with GTO. When I finished a disc, I couldn't wait to pop in the next one and continue watching. It's a hilarious series mixed with drama and imagination. I always had a good laugh at how Onizuka got himself and his students out of touchy situations, and grew to respect his character. GTO is now my new all-time favorite anime.

Subtitle:
one or two instances when the kanji word for 'kill' appears on a character as a vein or a spot on the hair, it's not translated. i doubt it's translated on the R1s either as it's not something a translator look for. i only noticed them when i hit pause. also when a sign is translated, the dialogue isn't. it's a bit annoying. there seems to be two sub tracks, one english and one estonian (i don't recall the spelling). the english sub has nothing, it's blank. the estonian is the one that works sometimes, lines just change to a different font (or bold?) for no particular reason, but it changes back to normal. but the subs are perfect.

Not perfect, but close enough. When watched on a stand alone dvd player the screen shudders alot when there are pans and scans. Actions scenes can get pixelate a bit. However, most of these problems are solved when watched on a pc. In both cases, colors are vibrant and accurate
Audio:
No problems at all whatsoever.
Subtitle:
Great overall. Only problem is when there are signs in the background, it only translates the sign and leaves any dialogue unsubbed, which is rather annoying. however the gist of whatever was spoken can be figured out by character reactions and the following dialogue.

Overall video quality is very good. Pixellation is noticeable in many scenes, especially when there is a lot of movement. Another annoyance is that the picture tends to move around whenever the background changes (more noticeable on a PC monitor than a regular TV). Edit: For the episodes I've watched, the picture tends to move around A LOT. However, my eyes adjusted to this annoyance...so it's not all that bad.
Audio:
No problems here. Very clear, even at high volume settings.
Subtitle:
Subtitles seemed to be well done. Clear and easy to read. No timing errors, and no spelling or grammar errors were noticed either. However, when watched on a regular TV, the lower portion of the subtitles get cut (around 1/4th to just under 1/2 of the words) when there are long sentences or more than one line on screen. Edit #1: In a few scenes the subtitles become bolded. This just seems to happen randomly throughout a few episodes. I'm not sure if this is the case in the R1 subs. Edit #2: Some episodes are missing subtitles. This seems to occur mostly for scenes that also have the background/foreground signs translated, and also for episode previews. At most, there would be approximately 3 lines of subtitles that are missing.
Comment:
I've watched a half of the series and so far, this GTO set is very good. The menus are ripped from the R1's and include many chapter breaks. There are a few extras such as outtakes, previews of other R1 releases (eg. Initial D), and others. Edit: It seems that many people have encountered problems with the discs. On all my standalone players (Pioneer DV353) and a Sony PS2, all the discs played flawlessly without any problems. However, as I watched the series on my PC, my DVD-RW (Pioneer A05) and DVD-ROM (Lite-On) drives would have difficulty reading discs 2-5 during the middle episodes of the discs. But the beginning episodes and episodes toward the end would play fine.
