Overall:
Video:
The video is noticably pixillated. The higher quality your screen, the more obvious it is. The picture also has a nasty tendency to dissolve into green squares at unpredictable moments. The middle of each disk has a glitch- not a skip but a sticky point. One has to pause/play or forward/play or sometimes stop/play a few times to nudge it past that point. There are a few opening and closing sequences per disk, but not always where you might expect them (like the first and last ep).
Audio:
A smidge tinny, but I doubt anyone will notice it unless they play it through a high quality sound system. Trust me, the other problems will distract you.
Subtitle:
If it were possible, I would rate this in negative numbers. The subs are done in an extremely distracting ancient-typewriter font; they are frequently misspelled; they only sketch most of the dialogue, leaving significant portions out; and, worst of all, I swear the dialogue was translated from Japanese to Chinese and then from Chinese to English, and *then* timed by someone who did not actually speak English. The titles frequently get three to four comments off from the dialogue. Watching takes concentrated effort. There is not an option to turn the subtitles off, so you're stuck with Chinese or English.
Comment:
This was my first HK purchase, when I was innocent and naive, and didn't know what "import" indicated. It is a minor miracle I ever considered buying HK again, and it was only due to the reviews available here that I risked it. Do not, if you love your eyesight, buy this edition. It sucks bunnies. Through a straw.
