Reviews for El-Hazard - The Magnificent World

Although the colors and details look nice and sharp most of the time, occasionally when there's some bright and flashy visual effects going on, there is noticeable pixellation. Not bad, but it's there.

Audio:

No problems with the audio.

Subtitle:

Great translation, spelling, grammar, and wording with the English subs (Region 1 rip, I believe), the only problems are with the occasional mis-timings where the subs are ahead or behind for a line in a handful of scenes, and dropped lines. These problems happen in every episode, but are fairly minor and never gave me problems understanding what was going on in the scenes they happened in and thus should not hamper a viewer from enjoying the series overall. Episode titles and on-screen text aren't always subbed either.

Comment:

First two discs contain "The Magnificent World I" and disc 3 had "The Magnificent World II." No extras to speak of. Numerous and detailed chapter stops with each episode. The menus are all in English.

One of my more satisfying HKDVD purchases. Video: 4/5 No problems. Good. Audio: 4/5 No problems as well. Good. Subs: 4/5 Slight problems, like timing, spelling, but no big deal, really. They don't occur often. The series come in 3 DVD5s. The first 2 is for the first series, and the 3rd disc is for the second series. The second series video is noticeably not as good as the first's. But still, this is a pretty safe buy. No gore, minimal violence, and very little nudity. Safe for family viewing.

Video is great on this series. No pixelization.

Audio:

No problems with audio, sounds like standard 2.0 stereo. Great sound!

Subtitle:

Subs seem to be from fansubs, although i'm not sure. They are very very well done, although sometimes the subs go off the screen it's still totally worth it!

Comment:

I loved this series and would recommend it over the Wanderers of El Hazard (TV Series).

Occasional mistimes and missing subs, but nothing really important is lost. There are also a few instances of misspellings. Very good a/v, though the audio is NOT 5.1 like on the US DVD. Otherwise, it appears to be a rip of the US DVD with chinese subs added and NO english dub available.

Am a big fan of this anime, but speed of subtitles should be little slow, but it still readble and great value.

Like the others, I found that the subs moved by quicker than they should. It still is a great release and is worth the cost.

This is a gret set - worth the money. Once in a while the subs fly by and the 2nd ova isn't as good as the first. But all in all it's worth it.

i pretty much agree with what the 1st reviewer said also but i would like to point out that there are points in the show where the subs fly by way to quick.

The other review here somes this set up pretty well, but I should mention that on the 2nd OVA (last disk) I could here a distinct humming sound in the background. It wasn't in the first part, but is definitly there in the 2nd.

This set contains El Hazard OVAs 1 and 2 and comes on three discs (although AS listings suggest otherwise..). The first OVA comes on the two discs, while the second takes up only a single disc. This seems to be a US rip, but the english dub is NOT present (again, contrary to AS listings). The video quality for the first OVA is gorgeous...the second however, takes quite a dip in quality, not terrible, but poor compared with the first OVA. The subtitles are taken from the US dvds also, however in episode 2 (and possibly 3) the subs are mistimed slightly- not terribly so, but noticable. The rest of the episodes however, are fine. The occasional untranslated line, but other than that, pefect subs. Overall, I was very happy with this set- worth it for the excellence of the first OVA alone, but the second was also enjoyable, despite the lesser A/V quality.
