Video:
The video i gave a 4.5 because there were a few pixelations and macro blocking!! But it wasn't bad im just picky. Disc 7 was the worst out of the discs but it also contains the special features so is understandable!! Both the Japanese uncut version and the English dubb edited version was included!! BONUS.. BOTH VERSIONS WERE A BIT DARK THOUGH!!
Audio:
What more can i say the Japanese audio was brilliant with no problems what i could detect..When watching it in English dubb it was alot louder and very easy to understand but that maybe because you cant watch the english dubb version with subtitles!! STILL VERY IMPRESSIVE
Subtitle:
The subtitles were very easy to read compared to most sets ive seen with only a few spelling errors.. Towards the end of the series disc 6 and 7 they started changing the names of some of the characters which was a little confusing!! THE SPECIAL FEATURES ON DISC7 WERE IN JAPANESE AUDIO ONLY WITH NO SUBTITLES SO UNLESS YOU SPEAK JAPANESE ITS HARD TO WORK OUT WHATS GOING ON!!
Comment:
MAC DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE GATEFOLD BOX FOR THIS SET IT LOOKS GREAT AND EVERY DISC HAS NICE ARTWORK DONE!! IT SEEMED A BIT RUSHED THE SPECIAL FEATURES ON DISC 7 THEY SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED SUBBS FOR IT..GREAT NEWS THIS RELEASE IN ENGLISH DUBB IS NOT THE US VERSION THANK GOD!! THE US VERSION SUCKED THEY CHANGED HIS NAME AND VOICE WHICH SUCKED HARD I HATED IT.. THANK THE HEAVENS WE GOT THE PROPER VERSION RELEASED IN AUSTRALIA ON TV!! Video:
This is pretty impressive quality for the amount of video packed on to the disc. Then again, it's an older style of animation with more slow pan shots and frozen heads so there isn't a lot of fast animation to pixelate. When there are fast action scenes, the bit rate increases to accomodate the animation so the video remains nice and crisp.
Audio:
The audio is pretty good considering this was recorded in basic stereo sound. Some of the sound levels on the English dub sound a touch tinny. That may be because of the source material though. Nothing major to detract from the audio.
Subtitle:
These subtitles are quite good. They use a nice big, easy to read font. They have great timing and the translation is excellent. I'm only knocking it down a half star because of a few spelling mistakes that would have otherwise made this equal to an R1 release.
Comment:
This is an identical release to the 5 disc set with three exceptions. 1) This set has more discs. 2) There are a different number of chapters per disc 3) The English dubs are seperate from the main video. In other words, if you just hit play and start watching this show from the beginning, there is no way to know there are English dubs. You have to go to the main menu and select the tracks with the English dubs. They are slightly edited from the main series (about 2 to 3 minutes shorter per episode) so they are an entirely seperate track. This is one of the last space series done in the classic 80s style of animation. It has a fairly tight story and good mecha designs. If you're looking for that feeling you had growing up watching Star Blazers, Voltron, or Battle of the Planets then this is a great space opera worth checking out.
