Very good part of this set. Colors are bright and have almost non noticeable pixilization. The video is by far the best part of the series.

Audio:

The audio track is clean and clear though the womens voice who does Excel gets anoying after a few episodes

Subtitle:

Went to subtitles when Excel's english dialog got to much. Love all the Sub options you have with this set. It goes well beyond what you get from other sets

Comment:

This is a very hit or miss series. Their is definately the good, the bad and the definately ugly when you rate some of the episodes in this set. I got a kick out of how nothing is safe in what gets teased in this series. Definately a renter on my list.

Lovely lovely. There is some pixelation durring high action scenes, but you will probley be too busy laughing to notice.

Audio:

Great sound.

Subtitle:

Watched the dubed version, so only glanced at the subs, but they look good.

Comment:

Extras: Anti-piracy notice (hahaha) Cultural Pop-ups (I recommend you watch them on the second go arround. Great to see what you missed out on the first time.) There are some great episodes, some blah episodes, some bad episodes, but all in all it equals a box of solid gold comedy. DarkanX's Series Rating: A+

The video quality on this set is truly superior to other HK sets I have seen and/or own. I pay very close attention to video quality and this was perfect. The episodes are presented in vibrant color and everything looks great

Audio:

Very nice. I usually watch my anime subbed, but in this case I watched several of the episodes dubbed just because it made the series funnier. Especially the English voice actor for Pedro, holy cow, it is SO FUNNY! One interesting thing is that the English voice actor for Excel changes after episode 13. I think there is some rumor about the first one wrecking her voice so they had to get a replacement. Sad because the replacement isn't as good. Also, there are 4 audio tracks. The difference is that the 3rd and 4th include the 'bubble pop' sound that occurs when there is a 'pop-up' info note.

Subtitle:

This was the most amazing part to me. This set has 5 subtitle options!! 1. Standard dialog and sign translations subs. 2. Sign translation subs only. 3. 'Pop-up' information notes only. 4. Dialog, sign translations, and 'pop ups'. 5. 'Pop ups' and sign translation. I usually watched with #4 or #5 (with the English dub). At times though, the screen could get littered with all sorts of subs because there is much care taken to translate EVERY single word. It is nice to have the various options though to customize your experience for the best.

Comment:

This is a wonderful offering from FX. The menus are great, and there are some extras that consist of an art gallery of sketch art. As another reviewer commented later in the series the chapter stops get a little off from where they should be, but it really is no big deal. I enjoyed this anime. It is really funny and off the wall, but the gimmick does get a little old after a while and it gets boring for some episodes. Still, I would recommend this set and this anime for anyone who wants to see something that is a great, edgy, and satirical anime comedy. If you do get it, I would recommend trying to watch it using the different sub and dub options, just to see what suits you.

Almost perfect r1 quality. Some small pixelation in a few scenes but not much.

Audio:

Your basic 2.0 prologic dual layer english and japanese.

Subtitle:

Great subs, the only problem was if you watch stuff dubbed, you have to have subs on for titles and stuff.

Comment:

This show is really weird. I personally didn't think it was a great comedy but it had it's moments. It is similar to flcl and it just makes fun of anime, yoda, power rangers, alien (sigorney weaver's movie), and a bunch of other movies and can be funny.

Very good. Only gripe I have is that it seems that some of the chapter selections are 1 to 2 minutes premature/late on later disks (3 in particular).

Audio:

On first episode noticed a slight buzzing, but it could be my current setup. Japanese had no others issues and was generally great.. The english dubbed version has some the worst cast of voice actors ever assembled, but I heard no buzzing or other annoying sounds during it.

Subtitle:

Very good. There are some sections where it lags a bit but overall its just a second or so. There is 4 sets of english subtitles. They are yellow primary subtitles with secondary white subtitles. White primary subtitles with secondary yellow subtitles. Then the 3rd/4th are the previous but with video notes explaining some of the gags.

Comment:

Extras on this set are character drawings and video notes that explain gags during portions of the show.

I can say that it looked Perfect, no problem really. R1 rip of course

Audio:

Also without problems, inlcudes Japanese and English Audio tracks. Strangely it includes 5 ! audio tracks !

Subtitle:

r1 ripped...includes 5 Sub tracks i don't know why...if you want English subs AND the AD Vid Notes choose track 4...i think that 2 others include only the Songs Subs and other the Subs without AD Vid Notes...couldn't undestand what were the other 2 though... I didn't managed to choose Japanese audio AND AD Vid Notes with the Menu...i had to change it manually using the DVD remote

Comment:

The only extras it includes are AD Vid Notes (if that can be considered an Extra) and Charather Sketches.

Excellent, looked awesome on my pc, where its easy to pick out artifacts and other problems.

Audio:

Also great. Perfect sound. both dubs present and sound great. Yea, like the reviewer below me stated, there are 4 audio tracks, 2 for each english and japanese.

Subtitle:

Excellent, engrish free, ontime, no lag. Signs and other things are subtitled. The wierd thing about this set is that, in PowerDVD, it showed not 1, not 2 but FIVE [5] subtitle tracks. whats more, only two of them work properly. Subtitle 1 are normal subtitles while Subtitle 4 has everything that subtitle 1 has plus the "bloop"-sounding menchi pop-ups with the 1-2 line cultural reference.

Comment:

My only gripe with this DVD set is that its encoded in a way that is rejected by my xbox dvd player. That and the MAC spriggan disc had problems. Of course, my xbox dvd player isnt the best, but still it would have been nice for it to work since all my other HK sets work just fine. The subtitle menu is a bit glitched. you can only select one of the two options [when there are 5 tracks present....]

Video:

Very crisp! If there was any pixellation, I failed to notice it. It's a straight rip of the R1 video, so it's very clean, and looks excellent, both on my television, and computer monitor.

Audio:

Once again, a straight rip of the R1 audio. Clean, clear, loud. For some reason, it has 2 Japanese and 2 English Audio tracks, but I can't tell any difference between them. Edit-The difference between the two tracks is one contains the appropriate "bloop" (quoted from dvd_master) noise, when the popups appear.

Subtitle:

Very good, easy to read, well-timed subtitles. Also a rip of the R1's subs. It has captions to all the thoughts, and texts, which has, until now, been missing from any/all Excel Saga sets. Easy to read, good translations, "engrish" free.

Comment:

All in all, this is truly the best "Perfect" Excel Saga set. It's better than the MAC offering, and is more polished. It has nicer packaging, that looks more professional. The menus are the R1 menus, and you get the nice bonus character sketches, and the ever-so-helpful "pop-up" notes that explain oddball cultural references. These "pop-ups" are noticably missing in the MAC set, which is what clinched the contest in favor of the FX set. That, and the menus.
