Very good, thats about it. I didn't notice any problems with it, but I don't mind if the image isn't that good, as long as the subs are good...

Audio:

Audio seems good. I think the audio did sometimes to low, but then back high. Do'nt ask me why. It doesn't affect the experience at all though.

Subtitle:

The subtitles were top notch. I never watch dubbed stuff.

Comment:

The dvd had some good extras. It was interesting looking at the premiere of the series and the galleries and stuff was a bonus. The Dubbing was very good, but the voices and script was made a little cheesy, hollywood style. The packaging is good. The series itself is very good. Being an RPG fan, this did whet by apetite. Very good series, but not as amazing as people made it out to be. 7.5/10 overall.

Considering the age of this show, the video is gorgeous. At the biginning of the first episode during the narration there's a bit of pale jitter in the colors that made me dock a point, but I think you'll be hard pressed to find better video quality for this series.

Audio:

Great audio. Both Japanese and English 2.0 tracks. All in synch and excellent.

Subtitle:

Great subs. There was one instance on the second disc where for about 30 seconds the subtitles got slightly behind (during Parn and King Kashue's discussion of why parn couldn't join him on the dragon hunt), but right after it went back to normal. All told, about three lines that weren't on time (and they were only off by one spoken line, very easy to comprehend). Other than that, good stuff.

Comment:

A classic series, and a great price. You get the official looking slipcover for the outside of the case, and on the inside of the case you have watercolor looking art that fits nicely with the show. There are extras, but admittedly they're a bit lame (vignettes from the manga, character info, a promo for the series, a selection of scenes where Slayne is casting various spells, and some footage from the release party of the first episode). All in all, a great buy, and well worth the price.

The show looks outstanding for its old age. Obviously a rip of the R1 Collector's Edition. I'm pretty sure that it's a direct rip without recompression, as the R1 was also 2 discs. There was a bit of grain, but frankly I don't think you can find a version of the Lodoss OVA without it. FYI: I watched this show with a HDTV. I recommend watching anime on a television and not on a computer because computer play-back is limited to the ability of your software and video card. When I checked these discs on my computer, I noticed a substantial drop in color and blending quality (since my video isn't too competent).

Audio:

Sounded great on my home theatre system. It's nothing too spectacular, but I'm sure that it's the best you can get from this old show.

Subtitle:

R1-ripped. I didn't see any misspellings, mistimings, or dropped lines. Subs were yellow with black outlines.

Comment:

This set comes with a good amount of extras: Cast a spell, comparision between manga and anime (love the music that plays during this), Japanese promotional tape, a LARGE art gallery, character bios, etc.

Well, it's not the best looking DVD I have, but overall it was good. The masters used for the R1s were not perfect. There's a bit of video noise that leads to a bit of ghosting during some camera pans, and some other scenes are a bit too soft. Toward the end, tho the image quality improves an the last episode is gorgeous. There's a bit of tiny pixillation on 2 or 3 scenes near the end, very difficult to notice, unless you have good quality equipment. Rip-wise, anyway, it's almost perfect, as this is a direct rip of the two R1 DVDs. I say "almost" because there's a scene on ep 10 where for some frames the image becomes very blocky. I get the exact same blocks on both the standalone and the DVD-ROM drive, and it doesn't seem to be caused by a defective disk. I uploaded a capture of it.

Audio:

Only listened to the Japanese track, and I have nothing to complain. Very good.

Subtitle:

Again, no problem, of course. Good translation. On disc two there are some moments where the subs come out one second before the character starts to speak. Nothing to worry about, really.

Comment:

Really a very good set, that fortunately is a direct rip with no recompression (I hate FX's CBR mania). A real pity for that video glitch...

Not the best video. It was overall great but you still get grainy scenes once in a blue moon. But i have to stress not very much.

Audio:

Your normal 2.0 jap/eng dialogue. As usual alittle soft but fine.

Subtitle:

I spot checked, i like watching dubbed wo subs. They seemed fine.

Comment:

Great Set. The box is very small and very cool. It has a cover sleeve that looks just like the r1 cover. Inside is a flip case that is the one you see on the page before this. Disk one has no extras. Disk 2 has alot. It has alittle magic game, rolw convention, rolw type of promo trailer, picture archives, and character information with alittle video playing on each major character. If you like d&d you will like this. Not alot of comedy, it is mostly a serious action/romance. The cool part about this anime is the magic scenes, the anime/d&d style dragons, cool swords, and the elfs rock.

Great. No problems i could see. Obviously an R1 rip, although the picture looks more like an excellent LD quality.

Audio:

Very nice. I can't speak about the dubbed track, since i think they're always awful anyway.

Subtitle:

Perfect. No grammatical problems whatsoever.

Comment:

A great little anime series that, i believe, stands the test of time very well. The second disc has a good amount of extras too. Check this series out, and I promise you won't regret it. This series was a huge hit with all the RPG/ D&D nerds back in the day.

Pretty good. No noticeable flaws. Not the best either though, although it may just be showing it's age.

Audio:

Good dub, but the music seemed to drown out the dialog at times.

Subtitle:

Didn't watch much of the subs, but what I saw seemed pretty good.

Comment:

This is a good fantasy series that clearly draws a lot of "inspiration" from Lord of the Rings. It's a little weird because after the first episode you go back in time, but never get back to where the first episode took place. It's almost as though they took the middle episode and put it at the beginning for some reason.
