Nothing to complain about on my simple stereo TV.

Subtitle:

R1 ripped. Maybe 4 or 5 lines missing per episode normally. But on episode 4 the subs are missing completely during the second half and episode 9 and 10 don't have subs at all (well on ep 9 the only the first word was subbed: "Croquettes!" ;). 2 1/2 episodes with missing subs is definetely too much to justify an "average" rating.

Comment:

A wonderful anime. Kind of melancholic comedy (actually more melancholic than comedy). If you want to watch this with English dub, go ahead and get this set. If you rather want to watch it subbed, then you can either a) bite the sour apple and watch 2 1/2 episodes dubbed on this set, or b) get an official release, or c) wait until someone else does a R1 rip.

Video:

Video is very crisp, R1 rip. Absolutely no blocking or noticable compression problems. All 13 episodes are spread over 4 DVD5s. Very rich colors, great video all around.

Audio:

I listened to both tracks and noticed that the japanese audio seemed to be a little more defined in terms of pro logic effects, the english dub track is great too but I liked the japanese character voices better and listened to the japanese 90% of the time.

Subtitle:

This was the only major part of the package that was a little dissapointing. Grammer and sentences are perfect, nice clear font, howver there are several lines that are missing completely and a couple places where subs will appear then appear again in mid sentence like a line was cut out or something. Some lines flash very quickly across the screen. Also, in episode 4 for instance the subs dissapear completely midway through the last restaurant scene and never come back. Tested on my Sony NS400 and my DVD-Rom.

Comment:

Overall, this is a very nice package if you are interested at all in this series. A couple of problems, but nothing that will make you go crazy. I just switched over to the english dub when there was a glitch and kept on moving. Packaging is very smooth and well printed, the dvds are solid with nice quality printing, and I kind of like the fact that they went with more lightly packed DVD5s instead of trying to squeeze everything down - A bonus too if you'd like to back these up disc for disc on dvd-r.

Video:

Video quality was absolutely above reproach. Sharp colors, no problems with heavy-motion sequences.

Audio:

I watched the dub all the way through, and my only complaint would be that quiet moments are TOO quiet and loud moments, of which there are several in this series (Shouting, explosions, yadda, yadda), are TOO loud. I had my remote in hand the entire time to adjust the volume as needed. I watched the first two R1's and they were the same, so it's not the rip.

Subtitle:

I played with these a bit, and they seem for the most part to mirror the English dub. The dub has several words added here and there, seemingly for effect, which are noticeably absent from the subs.

Comment:

From the folks who did Serial Experiments Lain, a light-hearted series that's NOT a totally pointless mindf*ck. Niea_7 is a light, slice of life anime about an extremely poor cram student with a hyper-active alien living in her closet. Taking place over the course of a summer, the series comes across with a subdued air that helps to convey its theme of enjoying the simple things in life despite their precariously ephemeral nature. While there's lots of fun slapstick to go around, it's the quiet moments of introspection that really make this anime click for me. Tricia Dickson is phenominal as the lead, making the dub a must see. She captures a sense of melancholy I think isn't quite as well-done in the Japanese version. J-ray is a little over-the-top as Niea, but the other actors make up the difference. I'll probably get around to a full viewing of the Jap soundtrack next time I watch this. Oh, and for those interested, the packaging is nice and colorful gatefold--much nicer than the typical Mac release. I strongly recommed this series.

Video:

R1 ripped. Clear, crisp, vivid coloring and sharp. This rating includes the CG.

Audio:

Good. Has Japanese and English dub. On time. I watch the entire series in English dub (to check on the Eng sub) and the voice actors are good (particularly the perverted East Indian cos-play alien).

Subtitle:

Good. Disk 1 - 3 has English and Chinese subtitles. Disk 4 has only English subtitle. English sub is very consistent with English Dub and is on time. Ep 10 is not English subbed. So are some of the East Indian verbal joke comes after ending theme of every episodes.

Comment:

Disk 1 - 3 extra is the textless episode opening theme. Disk 4 extra is the textless episode 13 ending theme (which is different on this particular episode) and 2 sing-a-long Kareoki style short tunes. Judging solely on anime quality of this MAC release, this is an awesome series. Plot wise, Nie under 7 is totally unconventional from most anime series. If you already like Nie under 7, you should not hesitate acquiring this MAC title.
