Basically, the video is good. Some noticeable pixelation on fast action scenes. Unfortunately on discs 3-5, there's too much brightness and contrast (see screenshots 11+12 to compare). I noticed the the same fault on AC-MAC's H2 set. This also was a set were they ripped the MI set onto less discs. Since discs 1+2, that don't have additional episodes squeezed onto them, look good, my conclusion is that AC-MAC somehow messed up the video during the reencoding trying to squeeze in more episodes on a disc. I also found out that the effect depends on your DVD player. My Kenwood showed no mercy and displayed the bad video as it was. But when I checked out my Sony, it really enhanced the video and if I didn't already know, maybe I wouldn't have noticed the problem at all.
Audio:
Noticed no problems on my simple stereo TV.
Subtitle:
Very good fansub-based subs for the first part: correct names and good grammar (and even correct punctuation). Some slight mistimings now and then and some occasional missing line. On the last 11 or 12 episodes we get classical crappy HK originals: wrong, sometimes inconsistent names and the usual grammar mistakes (gender, tense). For the most times these are understandable, but there are some lines where you just think "????". My favorite was a line where the audio said something like "Uso, baka!" and the subs read "You only know to fuck". Gotta add a screenshot of that.
Comment:
This is a very likeable anime. I really recommend this series. I finished the 50+ episodes in a relative short time, so you can take that for a sign that I enjoyed it. The biggest problem with this set is the video on discs 3-5. But as I mentioned above, if you have the right DVD player, maybe you won't notice it at all, but on my Kenwood it really was awful. I could tweak brightness and contrast on my TV as much as I wanted and still wouldn't get a good picture. So my recommendation would be to spend the extra money for an additional disc and get the MI set of this series. Equipment used: Cheap Grundig 27" PAL stereo TV, Sony DVP-NS 300 codefree PAL DVD player, Kenwood DVF-3080 PAL DVD player

For the most part, Kodomo No Omocha has a good quality display. There were a few times when I would notice small pauses, but other than that I think you're pretty much set with this one. Nothing much to complain about. Though I may have just not been watching closely ^^'
Audio:
I didn't notice anything so stupendously bad I had to complain about it. I'm not such an experienced Anime fan that I can tell the difference between 'great' and 'nice'. Unless you're a very picky person, I don't think you'll be dissapointed
Subtitle:
Gah. Subtitles. For the most part, they were pretty good. In a couple episodes they switched the names up quite a bit. There's also the occasional typo. Actually, more than 'occasional.' It's pretty often. Atleast a few every episode. Like the previous person said, in the 6th disk about [blah blah blah] and [blah blah blah], "joke," turns into "!@#$" ^^'
Comment:
Kodomo No Omocha is one of my favorite anime. I may be a little biast on these reviews :3' But I truly believe I've gotten a good lesson out of Kodomo No Omocha. If you don't know, it's also "Kodocha," the manga. oO; At first, this series starts out slow. I had downloaded a couple episodes, but forced myself to buy it. Aren't I a die-hard fan? It doesn't seem like much, but Sana and Akito's relationship soon develops. I found myself crying a few times, but more in the 2nd set. Even though I know what was going to happen n.n; So, if you've read the manga, buy the anime. In my opinion, the anime is a much better deal. It's more emotional, and the story doesn't follow the same way in the end. That's all. Hope you gained a bit of knowledge from my very first review (:

Probably R2 rip, good quality. I saw some pixellation in every episodes when plenty of little bat vampire runs from one screen to the other one. The 4th and 5nd DVD has more pixellation than the first 3, when a lot of people runs across the screen or when car runs very fast, you notices a 1-2 seconds pixellation. Otherwise, the rest is fine
Audio:
No complaint
Subtitle:
Episode 1-39: A couple of mispelled word, 1 mispelled name. Some lines were missing in some episodes, the subtiming was very good but there were a few places that when Sana speaks so fast that the subtiming is a little late. Overall, very good sub Episode 40-43: The sub is HORRIBLE, many mispelled name (like Hayama becomes Hapami, Take is mispelled Woo), many lines didn't make any sense a.k.a badly translated, some words in English didn't appear on the dictionnary a.k.a bad word choosing, some lines missing, many mispelled word etc.. etc.. Episode 44-51 is a little better than Episode 40-43, some name are still mispelled like Take=Woo, few mispelled word, subtiming is good, few lines are missing but translation from Japanese to English is improved. Overall, the last 11 episodes are poorly done compared to the first 39 episodes

I liked the anime very much. It's a combinaison of Hana Yori Dango/Super Gals/Kare Kano with some Excel Saga humour in it. The character are a lot of fun to watch. First, Sana was pretty hilarious, she drove everybody crazy, she treats her manager (she's plays in Kodomo No Omocha (for little kids) on TV) like a pimp, she causes mayhem at school especially against the boy. When she mads, watch out, she can destroys everything in her path. Her mother is funny, she likes to wear different hats (like a small amusement park) so her pet squirrel Maro can stay on it. She likes to drives a mini racing car around the house and loves to teased the script publisher when she's not on time to completed it. Then there's Hayama, Sana's enemy, he doesn't smile, he leads a army of boys against the girl (especially the teacher), they disrupt classes a lot so Sana intervienne and all hell breaks loose. Hayama secretly loves Sana but he doesn't show it to her, he rarely smile and loves to make Sana angry whenever he does a bad thing. Just with these character, you're in for one hell of a laughter. In one episode, Sana enters the classroom and yells good morning so loud that the entire class blowns up along with a school wall. HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA, I love Excel Saga humour Overall, it was very good. You can't get enough of Sana, you never know what she might do next. Give it a try, you'll love it. With 51 episodes in all, you're not going to get bored with it. Every character really cracks me up. VERY RECOMMANDED (A BIG THANX for my good buddy MatthewMallay for lending me his copy of Kodomo No Omocha to watch)

Some instances of pixelation. Generally very good. A small annoyance is that there are no chapter breaks.
Audio:
I noticed no problems. However, the dvd menu is somewhat louder than the episodes, so I had to turn down the volume while switching between the two. Not a big deal.
Subtitle:
Well, this set has the same problem as the MI version. The last 11 or so episodes have TERRIBLE subs. You get only a vague idea what is going on. Names are changed to weird variations. The rest of the episodes have VERY GOOD fansubs, so i guess that makes up for these few bad episodes. One minor detail i found annoying is in the episode where Hayama and family go to the cemetary. Hayama's dad starts to say something about Hayayma's mother. He stutters "Okasan" a couple of times which means "mother". This is translated as "shit"???? It made no sense. Anyway, for the most part, the subs are great.
Comment:
This is a good set to buy if you can get past the annoying subs towards the end. Kodocha is a wonderful series, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
