Reviews for Love Hina TV - Perfect Collection

Honestly, I could not complain one bit. There was no pixilating or bleeding (at least that I saw).

Audio:

Loud and clear. Sometimes, however, the volume seemed to change, but it wasn't anything horrible. Great job again FX

Subtitle:

I only watched it a few times with subtitles. There were some lines that did'nt seem to be transalted. I don't know Japanese fluently, but I know enough to know when something is omitted.

Comment:

This show is horrible addicting. I had read several reviews, each saying how wonderful and quirky it was. But, I wasn't prepared for just how hilarious it is. Seriously, every episode is packed with hilarious adventures, ranging from them losing their glasses and not being able ot tlel who each other is to fighting a GodZilla sized robot turtle. My only gripe about the show is the level of fan service. Now, being a guy, you'd think I'd go for it. But, it kinda ruined the experience somewhat. I mean, sometimes it was really funny. But, often it was kinda forced. (no one is so clumsy as to pull down a girl's skirt EVERY FIVE MINUTES!) If you're looking for a hilarious show that promises tons and laughs and several heartfelt moments, get Love Hina. It's one of those shows that makes you say "Aww, I wish that woud happen to me"

Only reason this did not get a 5 is because during one episode the subtitles bled through on to the screen slightly in one scene for about 1/2 second. It was very odd (I did not have subtitles enabled). I reversed it and checked it again just to be sure, and sure enough, it was there. Disk 3 had a very tiny amount of pixalation, but nothing you are likely to notice.

Audio:

I watched this in english audio, as I prefer to watch comedies in english. One very odd thing about the english dialog is that they call Mitsune by the name Kitsune most of the time. I'm not sure if thats just something that they do in general on the show, but I found it quite odd. Plus the voice actress for her is very...bad. My friend prefers this in japanese and she said that it was right on.

Subtitle:

The subtitling is very literal, which in a comedy, is not a good thing to do. I also noticed they leave out small bits of dialog that might not look like it matters much, but it is very noticeable if you watch the English dub along with the english subtitles.

Comment:

I didn't know what to expect when I began watching this anime. I had never seen it before and had heard some mixed reviews about it. After watching the entire series in 3 days (one disk a night) I can say that it left me wanting more. The packaging from FX was very nice, as always. Each panel has a picture of Keitaro on it with one of the girls. The disks themselves have the same picure on them as the panel they are attached to, and are also very well done. This set contains Episodes 1-25. It just just the TV series, and does not have the xmas or spring specials, nor does it have Again. It was a great buy and I would recommend it to any anime fan.

The video was perfect. Since it was a R1 DVD rip, the picture was very crisp and clear. There was no fading colors either. I never noticed any pixelation either.

Audio:

The audio was perfect also. I only watched Love Hina in Japanese, because the English dubbed version is pretty bad. The voice actors really suck in the dub(I did briefly try the dub out).

Subtitle:

The subtitles are the R1 subtitles, so they are perfect. I think there was only 1 instance where a line wasnt subbed, and it was in episode 25. Maybe the line just went by real fast. Anyway, all that was being said was basically "Good luck, Keitaro". I know what you are thinking. "If the subtitles are perfect, why did you only give them 4 stars?" Well, its because Bandai's translator/subtitler decided to translate the honorifics. I really can't stand that. It's really hard to see the relationship between characters without them. This is how they did it: -chan was translated to Ms. -kun was translated to Mr. -san was translated to Mr. or Mrs. -sempai was translated to Mr. or Ms. Some people might not find that a big deal, but it really bothered me, so I knocked a star off of the subtitle rating.

Extras: Each disc has a different trailer(just 1 a disc)for other anime released in the United States by Bandai. Content: 4 out of 5. Well, I bought this because I am a huge fan of the Love Hina manga. Before I bought it, I was warned by a friend that the anime wasnt nearly as good, but I still bought it. Well, my friend was right. The anime isn't nearly as good as the manga, but I still think the anime is pretty good(as you can tell by the ranking I gave it). Love Hina tells the story of 20 year old loser Keitaro Urashima, who is trying to get into Tokyo University to keep a childhood promise, who then finds himself as manager of an all-girls dormitory, Hinata House, which was formerly ran by his grandmother. The Love Hina anime has tons of filler, and stories from the manga have been changed to make different characters the main character for that portion(for example, the dream episode). The first half of the anime seemed very rushed and I didn't like it very much, but half way through the series, it became a lot better and I enjoyed it more. Also, the anime has some pretty bad character designs at the beginning of the series. When I first started watching it, I thought they were ugly, but they either grew on me or became better towards the end of the series. Despite the filler, sometimes bad character designs, and rushed first couple of episodes, the Love Hina anime is still really good. It has comedy, romance, and may be even a slight bit of drama. All in all, it was good. I recommend it. However, if you have read the manga first, you might not like the anime as much as if you had not read the manga first.

You just have to love LOVE HINA. really good set. however it DOES NOT contain the 2 ovas, and they are called specials by the way. if you are planing on buying this set, i suggest buying the perfect movie and ova collection. if you don't, the series will juss leave u hanging. the ova and specials put a nice end to it. however, if u truly love LOVE HINA, i suggest buying the manga instead, i kno it's 14 mangas, but the series only lead up to like book 8 or 9 of the manga, and the manga has so much more. or if ur like me and juss truly love LOVE HINA, buy the set, movies, ova and the manga. LOL. well it's really good, nuff said.

I experienced no pixelation in the series. This set is the best I've seen and Ive seen a few. I experienced no glitches on this set, it really is perfect. It played perfectly on my Sony DVP S300 with no skipping or freezing problems.

Audio:

I only listened to the series in Japanese. I changed to English to see how it sounds, and it's the same great sounding quality (except for the fact that their voices suck in English).

Subtitle:

Now for the subtitles I noticed very little mistakes. I noticed that sometimes the text comes in late by a second or two in some situations, it happened very little times though, so it's ok. An example would be when Naru is screaming, the text "Ahhhhh" comes a few seconds behind. Also I noticed the font changes from disc 2 to disc 3. Its very hard to notice it, but Im pretty anal when it comes to keeping things consistant. Other than that, subtitles were perfect. Perfect grammar and spelling.

Comment:

If you plan on buying Love Hina, I suggest you get this setby FX, it's PERFECT. Its packed with a few extras and a cool menu screen. The extras are the textless opening and ending scenes. The gatefold box was amazing, one of my favorites.

Very sharp and detailed. No pixilation or other problems. I also have another import verison of Love Hina (might be from MI, there isn't a designated logo on the box but an e-mail address based in taiwan) but it has a grainnier image in comparison to this version.

Audio:

Very clear. This version does not have the audio sync problem in episode 3 as some have mentioned. The other version I have does have this problem and a noticable difference in loudness between the japanese and english audio tracks.

Subtitle:

This is the problem area. Yes, the subtitles are excellent, definite R1 based subs, with nice Yellow contrsast, and no engrish, e-mail addresses , or other things that throw off the viewer. The first problem is on episode 10 I believe (Naru becomes a pop idol), when Naru is going to the theater with Keitaro, the subtitles literally stop even though they still are having a conversation. (This happened on both my stand alone dvd player and my dvd rom drive) The problem is fixed though by just hitting back for a sec and the subs continue on. Another problem is during episode 16, when some of the characters Sarah, Kitsune and Haruka) are talking, their names appear, but their lines aren't subbed, even though they're very short. My other version does have both their names and lines. In comparison to the other dvd, the subs here can actually be seen and read, whereas the other version, some just flash by and you have pause it to see what was said. One other thing with the two sets is that the subs are exactly the same in terms of color, style and translation.

Comment:

The entire series is amazing and definetly worth every penny. If you have to buy an import, I would recommend FX, because the quality of the dvd, as well as the art on the outside cover, are worth it and definitely R1 quality. Love Hina will keep you laughing and crying many times over.

This title was my first experience with Fx... and I was blown away. I couldn't believe the video quality of this DVD, it made my Love Hina experience more enjoyable. As soon as I finished I went and ordered Love Hina Again from Fx. There were no glitches, pixelation, or poor quality animation. It was crystal clear and absolutely beautiful. The only odd thing about this DVD (which it is not a big deal) is that there was a new chapter "break" in the middle of a dialouge in episode 4. The only reason I found out was because my DVD player stopped or "skipped" at this point. But this oddity can't even be detected with a good DVD player. So disregard this note if you have a decent player.

Audio:

Great sound- Japanese and English tracks (I watched, rather listened to both).

Subtitle:

The subtitles make sense. Even if you don't like subtitles I suggest you watch them with them on (at least once)... the subtitles are often funnier than the English dub. So I give the subtitles 5/5 because they were fun to watch.

Comment:

I bought this set without ever seeing Love Hina... I had no idea what I was about to get myself into. It was of the best animes I have ever seen. I can't really compare it to any other animes (I haven't seen any romantic comedies) so I can't say what kind of people would like this, but if you enjoy anime and have (never) seen romantic comedies before I suggest giving Love Hina a try. I am also glad to have seen an Fx title. Now I know how to buy import anime. Thank You Fx!

Video was sparkling clean. Only giving it a 4.5 because It had issues with my first DVD player when it would get halfway through the 2nd and 3rd DVD it would become lag up and become unplayable. With new player its fine though.

Audio:

Only listed to Japanese Voice version of this. No Problems I could notice.

Subtitle:

Subtitle is kept to a general high standard of translation through entire 25 episodes. Sometimes subtitles seem to lag or be premature by a half a second or so though.... Only one subtitle to choose from yellow with slight black outline, hard to see only in certain scenes.

Comment:

Older versions of this series that came out had issues playing with older DVD players (I bought a new one to work with some of my purchases), I would advise asking for the new copies of this if you're planning to order and have a DVD player over one year old.

The video quality is really great. I could tell no difference between the REgion 1 release and this release. I have only seen 1/2 of the series so far but not one flaw yet..

Audio:

I dont have a pimped out osund system I just use my regualr old tv speakers and it sounds great.

Subtitle:

Well I usually only watch the dubs but I checked out the subs and they seem to be fine.

Comment:

The onlything that I disliked about this FX title is that for some reason japanese text like when someone is holding up a sign or piece of paper with japanese text is that it isnt subtitled like it was in the regular region one. To get most of it subtitled you have to turn on the subtitles. That can be a bother when watching the dub because you have to rewind and then turn on the subs. I dont get why it is like that.. Other then that this new FX release is great..

The video was absolutly sparkling. The entire series shows solid lines, bright new animation, and great color everywhere. The video quality is perfectly intact. EXCELLANT!

Audio:

It was clear, with both japanese and english. However, it does desynch occaisionally, sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow. It isn't more then 3/4 a second though, so it's still entirly watchable, and most people won't even notice it.

Subtitle:

Obviously ripped from Bandai's DVDs. The are a thinish yellow font with a black border, and will sometimes show up a second late, but are always there and are just great. I might as well say that the R1 translator did so much work in making the subtitles perfect. Not grammer, but every line has the best possible translation, each specially crafted to fit the character saying it. There was this big article on this I read, so I'd just want to point out that even if you have another set or digisubs, this set airs superior. EDIT: The subtitles drop in quality to a 4 star for the Spring Special only.

Comment:

Boxart: This is THE nicest gatefold I've yet seen! It has a foggy slipcover, and underneath shows pictures of the Hinata girls looking sexy in this revealing sheet-outfit getup. The packaging is so awesome, just because of the quality of the printing. All the pictures are a great, glossy finish with outstanding clarity. The entire package features these shiny embossed images, which look great. As usual, FX is bad with making the back of the package look good, just some screenshots and some information. (darn!) but the rest is good. Menu Taken from Bandai, with a big red heart appearing, with other hearts that are pictures of Keitaro and some other girls there, and the Love Hina logo just kinda floating there, then at random they will bounce around. Really nice scene selections too, even for Xmas and Spring specials. ------- There are no extras (damn!) but it did include the Spring and Xmas special, also R1 rips. Unfortunantly, I was stupid and didn't know this, so I also bought MI's Xmas special. Note: The Spring Special is NOT an R1 rip!!! It has no english dub, only japanese, and the subtitles look noticably different (a yellow block font, instead of the regular thin yellow from Bandai) and the translations aren't as good, but it is still watchable. The subtitle change in the TV series partway to a different font. The 2nd on is better.... the first is a thin (think arial narrow almost) yellow, and the second is a regular wider (like arial) type. The quality or timings don't change, it's just the font switched. Just to let you know. This was a great great buy, and a great show! I didn't think I would enjoy it nearly as much! VERY VERY reccomended. I thought it was excellant.

Err... neither my HDTV nor my monitor showed any pixelation through what I watched (I have already seen this twice... I couldn't watch much more of it for a few more months...). It's freaking awesome (wow, bandai did something nice for us...). The Spring special looks very different, as it's from a different source. It's a shame really, but since it's not the best episode (the X-mas one was WAAAY better) I'm not complaining too much. It's still a slight let down after the first 26 episodes, though.

Audio:

No problems here, and you can even choose English Dub! (yes, that was sarcasm. Please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! DO NOT WATCH IN ENGLISH! You will not need to punish yourself for such an action, the dub will be punishment enough [One of the worst dubs ever to disgrace the US EVER]). Other than the Dub, the audio sounds great!

Subtitle:

It's the R1's subs... they were a little liberal with the subs, sometimes, but on the whole they're pretty good. Didn't check the Spring Special, tho.

Comment:

Boy, what an awesome show. Good stuff. My only beef with this set is that the last 2 eps are referred to as OVAs. THE OVA is NOT on here. The OVA is entitled "Love Hina Again" and is TOTALLY and UTTERLY different. The last two eps are known as "specials". So anyone thinking they get Again on here... nope. just the TV series (which is just as well... the OVA was pretty bad).

4.75 Video is comparable to FX's rip for Rurouni Kenshin--it looks really, really sharp, and there's only a very miniscule amount of pixellation. Colors and details are great. It looks like everything was a DVD rip, including the two OVAs--both of which looked every bit as crisp and vibrant as the TV episodes. The Spring OVA appears to be ripped from the Japanese DVD since its scene selection menu is in Japanese.

Audio:

4.25 For all of the TV episodes and the Christmas OVA, there's a Japanese and English audio track to choose from, and only 2 Japanese tracks for the Spring OVA. The Japanese track is louder and sounds fuller than the English one. I also noticed on Disc 1 that one of the episodes (#3), the audio is out of sync with the video (ahead, specifically) by half-a-second. Since this series has so much violent slapstick-type sound FX, it's pretty easy to notice. I've only skimmed Discs 2 and 3, so I don't know if that problem resurfaces elsewhere in the set.

Subtitle:

4.75 The subtitles are practically perfect, being ripped from the Region 1s. The letters are thin and yellow with thick black outlining. A nit-pick problem is that sometimes they show up a little late, like in the middle of a line of dialogue instead of at the beginning. The subtitles for the Spring OVA are the same from the fansub of it I downloaded, except the signs and onscreen text are not subbed. The font for it is like MI's usual one, except yellow instead of white.

Comment:

There are no extras to speak of in this set. Chaptering is split to Opening Credits, Part A of Episode, Part B of Episode, End Credits, except for the two OVAs at the end. The two OVAs each have 16 chapters. One last note: the box claims to have episode 25, but Episode 25 IS NOT on this set.
