As Shady stated, the video for movies 1-6 are all ripped from R1 sources, and the video for movies 7-13 are ripped from LD sources. With that said, I should also point out that movies 7-13 are also in artificial Wide Screen. While this is not Mac's fault, but rather Toei released the DBZ movies in the theaters as widescreen and didn't release it on VHS/LD with the matting taken off. So while we get the nifty widescreen (which I would love over a cropped Full screen show) we get a cropped widescreen show. Anyways, on the first 6 movies, the picture waulity is standard fare. The video quality isn't totally up to snuff (I don't think the R1s had super high production value), however, it's not like macroblocking either. Just general grain and the like when viewed on a computer monitor. Movies 7-13 all looked really nice. Since it's an LD rip, there's softness to the video. I also noticed that there seemed to be tint to the video. It looked a little greener or Bluer. While I couldn't put my finger on it, it definately seemed a little different. For instance, when i was watching the LD extras for Movie 13, I captured a scene (in Full screen) and captured the same scene in the movie (matted widescreen), and there was an obvious difference in picture. The Special was a bit brighter and while it's not totally noticeable in the screen cap, watching the specials is kinda hard because it's a bit too bright. The difference was mostly in color hue. I'm not sure if this is Mac's fault, or Toei's fault. As for the encoding quality, the video gets a bit blocky here and there. For instance, in Movie #9, Gohan's kick in SSJ2 is a bit of a blocky scene. They're interspersed here and there. On a whole the Video is damn good (considering how much is on each disc). I think the problem really only exists on Disc 3 since it's the disc with 4 movies on it. Also of note, the R1 movies have lots of rainbowing them. movies 1 and 3 have lots of scrolling dotes (that is there will be a weird dithering effect on reds and some other colors, and the dots will scroll...I'm not sure if I can explain it better than that. There's also a scrolling line right next to the black bar on the right side of the video). This is Pioneer's fault, and not Mac's.
Audio:
Audio is just fine. Movie 6 seems to have a slight audio desync by the end of the movie. I couldn't pinpoint how much, but when Goku throws the senzu beans to Yajirobe, it hits his hand, and then you hear the hitting sound about half a second or a little less later.

The subtitles for these sets are superb. The subs for the first 6 movies are obvious R1 rips, however there is a problem with movie 5. On my set, all three tracks are the Dubtitles, and it's the worst movie to do so. Movie 5 starts off with Bardock yelling at freeza which is taken from a scene in the Bardock Special. In the Bardock Special, he's fighting Freeza's goons to get to him, and they all cower in the presence of Freeza. In the Dub, in the beginning of Movie 5, the goons are saying they quit... So there is odd story continuity (something Funi didn't look through very well). To say the least, it's an irritation. Movie 7's subs are hardcoded. However, they don't creep onto the video. However, for those planning on ripping Movie 7 into DivX are going to have a bit of a hard time, unless, they want to transfer from DVD to SRT/SSA or rip full screen (which no one should do). The rest of the subs are subs I recognized from Digisubs I downloaded back in the day (mostly taken from Methus' encodes. I'm not sure where he got his subs from). They have the usual assortment of misspelled words and the like, nothing too serious.

This is such an awesome set! I can't say this enough. Being a fan myself of all the movies, and having only Digisubs and Fansubs to tide me over, this was definately a blessing to buy. The packaging is pretty nice, but a little convoluted (especially on mac's small packaging). The only complaint I have is that they could have probably extended the set to 5 discs in order to releave some of the size from disc 3 (considering it has 4 movies, including the longest DBZ movie). But overall, this was an extremely awesome buy. A must get for any DBZ fan!

This set contains all 13 DBZ movies. Sorry if this review is a bit chaotic but I added a lot of things as I my viewing progressed. The first 6 movies are taken from R1 dvd source. Any imperfections you might notice were most likely also present on the R1’s. For example, you’ll notice some artifacting during some dark scenes where you have a view of the galaxy. You won’t see any pixelation during fights though. 7-13 are taken from Japanese LD. The picture is not quite as sharp on those last 7 movies when compared to the R1 rips but still very good.
Audio:
This set contains a Japanese and English track for the first 6 movies and the rest are Japanese only. Movie 5 also contains a Spanish audio track. I don’t have a fancy setup or anything but they sound fine to me. Movies 3-6 had an English 5.1 channel, I’m not sure if those on these dvd’s are just as good but there are definitely 2 English audio tracks. Someone with a better setup will have to check that out. But I only listen to the Japanese track and I can hear every punch that is thrown and the screams sound a 100 times better then any English dub could ever achieve ^_~ In other words, it’s good.

This is what most people are really interested about eh ^_^ Like I said, the first 6 movies are taken from R1 source so that includes the subtitles, so grammer and spelling wise they are perfect. It appears that an occasional line is missing, maybe 1 or 2 during an entire movie. The thing is that there seem to be 3 subtitle streams on some movies, so when 1 stream doesn’t have a line, another will. There is also a dub if you wanna what is being said but I really hate the dub so I didn’t listen to it and there is a chance (big one) that it’s not an accurate translation of the Japanese dialogue. I’m not sure how the font of the subs is on the R1 dvd’s but these are all white. Something that might bother people is that on some of the later movies the subs are a bit small. They’re pretty easy to read still, not at all hard to read like the ones on the MAC Hellsing. Something that might also bother some of you is that movie 7 has hardcoded subtitles, in other words, you can’t turn them off. I don’t really care since I need the English subs anyway, but for those who have the intention to make a music video or just want to watch it raw, too bad :p The subs that are used from fansubs for movies 7-13 have near to no mistakes in spelling and grammar. I’ve noticed so far that some names are slightly off. Videl is written Bideru (the way it’s pronounced) and Tapeon instead of Tapion. Another weird thing is that the opening scene on movie 5 only seems to have dubtitles. It’s only a bit annoying in that scene, but for the rest of the movie there are normal translations. These are the only nitpicks I could find ^_^ Btw, keep in mind that for movie 5 stream #1 is for the English dub, #2 is for the Japanese and #3 for the Spanish.

All in all I find this a great set with a minor problem and some nitpicks. Also, please keep in mind that I've seen over half the movies on this set and I've thoroughly skimmed through the rest so if any problem occur later on, which I don't expect, I'll post them here, and if it's all ok I'll post that as well.
