Subtitle:

The translation of this series is pretty good. There are some typos and spelling changes that don't make too much difference to the story. My big complaint is how many dropped lines there are on this release. I'd say somewhere between 5% and 10% of the subs are missing from each episode. Most of the time it doesn't matter but there are those moments when I want to throw a brick at the TV because I missed a line of key dialogue.

Comment:

This review stands after watching the whole set (I started it after watching just six of the episodes). Video: Fairly high quality picture. I did notice one or two scenes that pixelated very briefly. Definitely above average for having this many episodes on one disc. I don't notice any of the distortion previously mentioned. Audio: Sounds good to me. Good levels and well balanced. Subtitles: Here's where I'm really dissapointed. Previous reviews mention fan subs and "minor" timing issues. I found lots of dropped subs, some odd translations, and timing that shifts from scene to scene. It's generally good but there are too many scenes where I'm left wondering what was said or who said what. Content: After a slow start, I became hooked on the characters and setting. Video: There is a slight distortion of the video a quarter way down the screen. Its most noticable when the screen scans up or down. It can be seen in all the episodes but most of the time its not too distracting. This distortion also appears in the second set of the series. Other than that the video is clear. Audio: Standard 2 channel stereo output; no complaints. Subs: Pretty good subs. The use of quotation marks is often wrong though and there are a few mistiming issues; nothing serious or too distracting.

Comment:

Good subs, uses fansubs but to note the translations used here are pretty shitty. Lots of swear words and vulgar language used incorrectly in this set. Video is good, not the best but very good.
