Reviews for Twelve Kingdoms, The Volume 1
Video:
Audio:
Subtitles:

Overall:

Video:

Obviously ripped from television, the picture quality is kind of okay. It's not too great - of course you cannot expect dvd quality, but there is no pixelation or blurriness either.

Audio:

Sounded almost okay. While listening to some episodes with headphones I noticed that the volume slightly increases or decreases sometimes, which is slightly irritating. However, I didn't notice it when watching on my TV without headphones. Nice stereo effects, though.

Subtitle:

Annoying but bearable. Most of the names are wrong, and sometimes two different persons are called by the same name (Asano + Sugimoto = both Asano). If you listen closely to what's actually said, you won't have any problems, though. Furthermore , there are lots of spelling and slight grammatical errors, but nothing too bad. It annoyed me that the written text is not translated (and more than once I got the feeling that it would be nice, if not very important, to know exactly what is written...)

Comment:

This DVD contains eight episodes of the brilliant "Juuni Kokki". I'm not so sure whether this is a good buy. The series itself is a rare example of fantasy anime not gone wrong (Escaflowne *cough*) and the story, production etc. are all great. However, this DVD has enough features that are downright annoying. Be prepared to listen closely to the audio, for the subtitles are flawed.
