Overall:
Video:
I just finished rewatching this series after so many years. Didn't realize before but now it looks so old and outdated. Made me think "Is this the series that started that whole giant mecha craze?" I guess there is nothing wrong with the video transfer itself, though. The series itself is so old and simply drawn in this early Go Nagai series that I doubt additional remastering will improve whole lot.
Audio:
Not much can be said about audio from the show of 1972. Simple Japanese stereo. Clear and not a lot of noise all the way through. Definitely more than passable.
Subtitle:
Here is some major problems. You don't need to understand any intricate plot in this one because there isn't any. It is good thing because abundant english will leave you go "huh?'. So annoyng they mess up names and titles. e.g., Dr Hell is Dr Hill and Professor Hill among many they used and Asula is Duke Asula, Count Asula, Earl Asula, intersex. Intersex!! Is that even a word? Worst of all, Mazinger is called Devil God. They couldn't even get the title character right. Thanks to the simplicity of the story, 99% of the stroy is understandable. You just don't get more suttle part of the story.
Comment:
As far as I know, there aren't any better "COMPLETE set" available with English subtitles. Hence, those who want to own this historic series, this is good one to have. By the way, this review is for MI version, which I didn't see listed, but I am guessing that MI and AC version are pretty much the same.
