Overall:
Video:
The video was fairly decent. Some pixelation during heavy action and especially the opening and closing credits. The picture may also appear slightly fuzzy on higher definition sets, but still watchable. This was a rip of an Anime Studio dvd, so that may be the reason that there is a slightly higher amount of pixelation than most fx titles (at least the ones I own).
Audio:
Audio had some problems. First of all, while it was the crisper of the two, the English track had some sync problems on certain episodes which resulted in the timing being off for a few seconds. The Japanese track tended to be softer and had a bit of feedback in it, but did not suffer from the problems the English track did. Both Japanese & English language tracks boast 2.0 stereo sound.
Subtitle:
Like the audio, the subtitles also had some problems. First and foremost, the subs tended to drop a number of lines, particularly near the end of the discs. Second is more of an oddity than a problem per se. Some of (if not all of) the episodes on the second disc appeared to be ripped directly from a closed captioning of the english voice track. The script was identical to the dub and on many instances would site sound effects, ie: "[birds chriping]," or, "[sound of hammering]," and the like. Not really annoying but a little odd and gave it a somewhat cheap feeling.
Comment:
While this is an average effort, this set has become obsolete as I now see that FX has issued what it claims to be a 'remastered' edition of this OVA. I assume this means that this is their own work from a R1 disc and not just a rip of Anime Studio like this is. (They didn't even bother to remove the Anime Studio logo for pete's sake!!) I've had this set for about a year and a half now and I honestly can't recommend this to ANYBODY in good faith. There are just too many other versions that are now available that are most likely better than this. If you're a Tenchi fan, just go and get the 9 disc box set already. If you're just looking for this OVA try the remastered version. BOTTOM LINE: Decent, but obsolete.

This is a rip of the Tenchi Muyo OVA release from Anime Studio/Anime Club. It has all of the same problems as that set. Video 3/5: Some pixelation when there is alot going on. Overall, not bad but it could have been better. Audio 3/5: Japanese track has a hum to it but the English track sounds ok. Bad thing is that the English track is a whole second behind in some episodes. Makes it virtually impossible to watch those episodes. You see Tenchi crash into the wall only to hear the sound a second later. Subtitle 3/5: Ok at times but in Episode 2, the last 5 minutes of the episode was not subtitled. It made some episodes impossible to watch with the Japanese track. Overall the set is ok. Much cheaper than the Pioneer set. You have to often switch between the Japanese track and the English track depending if the English audio was behind or when the subtitles were bad. Somewhat disappointed but can't complain. =)
