Ok, theres 2 things Im saying about this anime. 1: The kick ass soundtrack gives it life but the entrance song is played during the whole series. Its one of the best songs ever in any anime!!! 2: Its an ok anime, ends kinda dull. Its fun to watch but its just good enough for watching it once and thats it. Im a guitar player and I've been craving for an anime like this for a while and indeed it gives pleasure watching it. The entrance song is the one you will mostly hear during the whole anime and that was a let down, c'mon the guys where legends in their day at least they could have played some of their hits not the same thing over and over again when they were fighting the alien enemies!!. Thats another thing they dont show the enemy not even once and the reason for their hate against them. There are also some sci-fi parodies, an X-files look-alikes searching a scene, that was really funny!!!!.Theres only two songs they play, another song before the ending and its cool. Some people will like this anime some people won't. The english voice cast is ok also. Another complaint is the folded case, Mac always throws out cheap dvd holders so sometimes the dvds will get outta their places and run around the case so that sucks. Get this set if your looking for a little rocking anime nostalgia, everyone else is better off buying something else. Dont get me wrong it is good but not good as good as I hoped for.

Perfect R1 rip.

Audio:

Perfect R1 rip. Normally I tend to rate this category 4.5. The extra 0.5 go for the hard rock soundtrack ;) Even the menus have cool audio (at least on the first 3 discs).

Subtitle:

R1 rip. Maybe 2 lines missing per episode. Also there were some subtitles for onscreen text that where transparent with black outline. But really no big problem.

Comment:

Finally a series with a hero I can identify with. Not some 16 year old schoolboy, but a middle aged guy like me. Hmmm... I have my bass guitar standing right beside my computer. And I have seen Michael Schenker live (must have been in 1986). So where are those sexy alien women, that will take me into space....? Entertaining series, nearly perfect R1 rip. Recommended!

Perfect!!! No need of recompressing the files here since it was put on 4 disc.

Audio:

Perfect once again

Subtitle:

An average of about 1 missing line per episode, but not really important lines at all.

Comment:

The 13 episode story I thought was great. The soundtrack is awesome and the characters are really cool. Its about Oji a middle age man who is summoned to save the galaxy by playing his guitar like he use to when he was in a rock band 15 years ago. Doesn't that sound awesome.

Perfect, as these seem to be almost 1:1 R1 rips other than the intro logo. You get 4 discs though, so you pay for the lack of pixalisation.

Audio:

Perfect.

Subtitle:

I used the Eng dub which was 'okay'. No audio glitches noticed. See other reviews for subs.

Comment:

Weird show. It's a bit like a strange Macross (music vs aliens) with a Cowboy Bebop-ish character. (spoiler alert) I could not help but wish the band were used in their peak instead of a re-group. The show never really explain the connection between the music and the weapon scientifically. it coudl have been done in a movie instead, but it uses the time more to cover relationships and mid-life crisis.

Video: 5|5 Video quality was PERFECT. This was a direct copy of the R1 discs. No re-encoding or anything. Awesome. Also, this seemed to be a rip of the AS release, only not. I read complaints about Episode 4 of the AS set having a huge video flaw, but it was not on this set. Episode 4 had no major glitches or anything of the sort. Audio: 5|5 Both Japanese and English audio tracks sounds excellent. Direct R1 rips. The dub for Black Heaven is actually above average. I still prefer subbed, but I could watch the dub happily. Subtitles: 4.5|5 Excellent subtitles. Again, an R1 rip so it's perfect English. This is where the only real flaw with the set came in, though. There was about 1 missing line per episode... some episodes having 2 or 3. Not a huge complaint at all as no important lines were left out. It was all pretty guessable. Besides, the dub track was there incase you wanted to know what they said. Disc Layout: The chapter stops for these were done kinda weird. Every chapter would play about 5 seconds from the previous chapter. Say, for example, I was gonna skip to the Intro of an episode. It would show 5 seconds of the next episode preview before going into the intro. Not a complaint, but a quirk. I actually found it to be cool. Overall a VERY well-done set. A few minor quirks, but nothing worth skipping this set over. I applaud you MAC for not just copying AS's release, but fixing problems with it, too. *applause*
