Reviews for Rurouni Kenshin TV Series Part 3
Video:

Overall:

Video:

The video wasnt super sharp dvd quality and there was some pixelisation but it wasnt a factor in spoiling this show for me.

Audio:

Sounded fine.

Subtitle:

I think these subtitles where devised by the devil, they are really terrible and have just about everything wrong with them that could be wrong; timing, spelling, sentances that make no sense, nosense words etc... ok so it is not every sentance that has a problem but there are so many things wrong that although you can follow the story it really detracts from your enjoyment of the show.

Comment:

The trust betrayal ova is one of my favourite animes and I saw the first 60 odd episodes of the tv series fansubbed and loved it, but this set was a real dissapointment for me. Terrible subs aside the way the plot progressed was nothing new with a major story arc being a near repeat of the shishio makato arc and a lot of the later episodes in particular where not very interesting. If you like kenshin i guess like me you will want to see the whole series anyway, but do yourself a favour and buy a different set, I think I remember reading a review of some perfect set that sounded good.

The video can be a little grainy and pixelated during intense fight sequences, which can be a real pain sometimes. I mea, you're getting into the fights and then you can't but notice a reduction of video quality. Really gets you out of the mood.

Audio:

I had no problems with the sound. At least none that I could notice.

Subtitle:

They are very, very bad. Almost every line of translated text has some kind of problem with it. It could be multiple mispellings, no translated text at all, or they'll translate it into Japanese romaji. In fact, my roomate kept seeing the words, "soku, aku, zan" as well as "de gozaru yo" on the subtitles he had to ask me what the heck they meant. It can be very frustrating even for folks who understand Japanese. Also, they don't translate important Kanji like signs on buildings, letters, calenders, etc.

Comment:

Well, the overall quality of this set distributed by "MAC" was pretty bad. My review on this set is basically my review on all 3 sets from "MAC". It is really, really bad. Buy it only if you cannot afford a better set, and you absolutely have to see Rurouni Kenshin. But if you end up hating the series, it could be due to the bad quality of the set. Don't say I didn't warn you.
