Reviews for Hajime no Ippo TV Part 1
Video:
Audio:
Subtitles:

Overall:

Video:

The video quality is pretty good. Everything is picture clear though the resolution is pretty dark compared to Geoneon's releases

Audio:

Speaking of GTO from another review, Takagi Wataru who plays Onizuka happens to play Aoki Masaru in this anime. Anyway, the sound is pretty good. Has sounds that perfectly match with the impact of the punches and everything. The music is also top notch. You gotta love Yuuzora no Kamihikouki.

Subtitle:

Hayami's name is translated as Su Shi, Ozuma is Weichi, and Ippo sometimes is translated as "One Step." They even get the punches wrong sometimes. Like calling a straight a hook from time to time.

Comment:

Just a terrific boxing anime. I say it's better than Ashita no Joe's fights and doesn't get exaggerated like Prince of Tennis (watch Ringu ni Kakero if you want DBZ/Kenshin like stuff in your boxing anime).

The video and audio were nice, but the subs were fair. The word choice left me guessing (i.e. 'fibs' was used a dozen times per episodes, mentally I translated it to punch, but maybe it was supposed to be fists). The anime is a cross between GTO and Ashito No Joe. It has the crazy perverted comedy & characters of GTO and it has the fighting and character development of Ashito No Joe. I am really looking into seeing more of this series, but The Fighting Part 1 is great even if that was all there was to the story. edited by Hanamichi on 16 Jun 2002 2:41 am
