Another thing you need to understand is that as an educator I am expected to have an educational purpose for almost EVERYTHING I do in my room. When I wanted to teach my kids chess, I had to draw up lesson plans and show how I was teaching kids more than just chess. I included stuff like algebra, history, literature, etc... Same with the anime, manga, and drawing books. It all has a purpose.

and to be fair I do agree that there IS plenty of anime that lacks substance.
But, that is true of almost any from of entertainment.
