I like Baroque style music. Bach is one of my favorite composers. On top of that, I like the "power metal" genre, with the well-crafted and meticulously high production value. Bands such as:

-rhapsody
-luca turilli
-symphony x
-stratovarius
-sonata arctica
-kamelot
-hammerfall
-blind guardian
-freedom call

I also really dig techno. Mostly the trance subgenre and to a lesser extent, Jungle and DnB. Considering most bands in this day and age have escaped progression and opt mostly for the cadence style music, I've come to liken techno as a revamped and contemporary version of classical music, considering many times it is strictly instrument and has some VERY good rhythms, harmonies and melodies. Most of the techno out there are produced by DJs who make one or two songs and release them on vinyl only, so I don't have too many favorite artists per se (the guys out there that produce CD length record seem to make their songs short, snappy and more pop than necessary). Some artists of note are:

-Infected Mushroom (weird Goa-trance)
-Dave Joy (infectiously catchy tunes)
-Omni Trio (some of the best jungle and chill songs around)
-DJ Doboy - He doesn't write any music, but he's a very good DJ. He has produced MANY different mixes (around 60). I have currently gotten ahold of 54 of his mixes, and they span a total time of 69 hours and 14 minutes. For anyone wanting a really good taste, i reccomend downloading Trancequility vol 22, trancequility special summer edition 1 and Vocal edition 6 (on his site, he says he doesn't care if people download his mixes). Granted i haven't listened all the way through all the mixes, I have listened to quite a few of them for a substantial amount of time and they are all, for the most part, rather good.

Other artists of note:
-Cibo Matto: Strange music from two japanese girls who produce some feel good songs to just the weirdest things around.
-Pixies: GREAT songs, harmonies and some of the weirdest lyrics and styles around. Nirvana's apparent influence.
-Pitchshifter: One of the bands i've had to just buy all the CDs of, since I like them a lot. UK Punk+Jungle beats. They pull it off really well.
-Mushroomhead: 7 or 8 piece thrash/metal band that has a similar motif to slipknot, only far less screaming, better tunes and not so rambunctiously loud and noisy.
Pushmonkey: Fun hardrock with a good singer
Mr Bungle: Weird, but melodic
The Urge: The only ska I can bare to listen to, since just about all the rest of it sucks
Mindless Self Indulgence: Weird, yet entertaining music. Check for their cover of Method Man's Bring the pain at their website.

Other bands I listen to:
311, nirvana, STP, Prodigy, Incubus, Offspring, smashing pumpkins, nin.

Video Game soundtracks I have (thanks to the PSF and SPC file formats)
FF1-2, 4-10+10-2, Saga Frontier, Chrono Trigger, Lunar 1+2, ALundra, Xenogears.

My current Winamp playlist is 4502 songs long, which includes all my music I listen to on a regular basis. It is now 349 hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds (14.58 days!). Whew, that's quite a lot.

Everybody has a very diverse range of music that they like. I may have missed it but I did not see anybody say they liked a band called OPETH. This is my favorite band right now. I know it is cheesy to mention this on an obvious attempt to get people to talk about anything but anime but I am into the FLCL soundtrack right now. I think the Pillows are a very creative band. Fave track is Little Busters. Sorry. Some other bands that I like are Iron Maiden and the related side projects (Bruce, Adrian, Paul solo stuf). I have always been a big metal head, I guess since Jr. High.

BUT REALLY>>>OPETH ROCKS

I'm pretty sure that Killswitch Engage is the only decent band on Roadrunner. And maybe Glassjaw, but they just don't click with me.
KSE's new album is fucking awesome. Check it out.

I used to like Both Fear Factory and SLipknot from roadrunner, but I've since grown out of them back when I was in 11th grade. I Just updated my winamp play list:
http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~methomps/kak_list.htm
Also, I'm curious how everyone here organizes their mp3s. Initially, I used to have my mp3s in a sub folder of my multimedia folder. As soon as I was nearing 1000, I moved the folder to the root directory. I used to have all my mp3s in a single folder, but then I made a bunch of sub folders to organize them all by genre. So, I have my classical, other, rap, rock, techno, pop and soundtracks folders. Within each folder I have made even more sub genres. In the soundtracks folder, I seperated it by video games, other and anime. In the anime and video games folders, I made seperate folders for each series. I haven't made seperate folders for each artist, since that would take a hell of a long time, however, it might be useful for the eventual mp3 player i buy.

My music is organized by how long it's been on my computer. I have three folders rdownloads new music & newest music; & if I ever need another one it will be called newerist music.
Most things in rdownloads have memories attached to them because of my life at the time I was into that sort of music, new music is mostly rap & emo, while newest music is just the stuff I'm into now mostly psycobilly.

Besides that the only other organization i use is Anarchy steering comity songs are in a separate folder inside rdownloads, & if I burn a CD I keep a the songs that were burnt in their own little oflder just incase I ever want to listen to the CD seeing as how I give them all away.

Organizing music is one of my main hobbies.

I have a seperate Hard Drive just for music.
The folders in it are...
Cutting Room
Downloaded
Music
Unfiled

The Cutting Room is full album stream dumps from Adobe Audition that I later use Audacity to split into individual songs.

Downloaded is exactly what it sounds like. If it's a free MP3 and the band sounds interesting, or whatever, I'll just put it in here to listen to later. I currently have about 100 songs in here

Unfiled is where the songs from Downloaded go once I've decided that I like them enough to keep. I start slapping proper ID3 tags (incredibly important that all songs in Music folder all have the same ID3 system) on them and making sure they work from start to finish.

Music is the end result. Inside are 27 folders, one for each letter of the alphabet (plus #). Inside each of those directories is a subdirectory for each artist or band, and then inside of each of those folders, there will be folders for more or less complete albums, or just MP3 files themselves.

When you have almost 5000 mp3's and about 4000 of them don't fit nicely into "genres" you kinda giveup on that idea. Music is music.
